A popular Granum music festival returns this summer after a two-year COVID-19-imposed absence.
The Willow Creek Gospel Music Jamboree is set for July 22-24 under the big tent at Granum.
“It’s been tough,” founder and organizing committee member Fran Hanson said of having to cancel the event two years in a row. “We’ve had to weigh our options and really think about it over the last two years.”
“We’re hearing interest from a lot of people. They’re quite happy we’re starting up again.”
The 2002 line-up includes the Rosettes, Prairie Joe, Fraser Valley Quartet and Fehr Family Band.
“After we have some fund-raisers we may get another group or worship group,” Hanson said. “We’re just looking at our options right now.”
The next fund-raiser is a roast beef supper from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, April 29 at Granum school.
With COVID-19 still circulating, organizers will spread out tables and encourage people to social distance, and wear masks if they desire.
“We’re just asking people to protect themselves,” Hanson said.
The fund-raising supper has already received strong community support with all the food donated by local Hutterite colonies, Claresholm IGA, JP’s Petro and Hansen Family Foods.
Granum Colony is also cooking the roast beef.
“It means a lot,” Hanson said of the donations to the fund-rising supper. “It shows that people are behind us and want us to do well.”
People are also to donate pies for the supper. Any pies left over will be sold as part of the fund-raiser.
Pies can be brought to the supper, or people can contact Fran Hanson at 403-687-3867 to make other arrangements.
Willow Creek Gospel Music Jamboree will also present the Joyful Melody Trio in concert on Saturday, May 7 as another fund-raiser.
The concert is set for 7 p.m. at Free Grace Fellowship Church at 1807 Second Ave. N. in Lethbridge.
Hanson and the organizing committee isn’t sure what to expect in terms of an audience in July, with COVID-19 still circulating.
“We’re not sure what’s going to happen when we start up again,” Hanson said. “Either people are going to be really ready to get out and partake in a gospel weekend, or people will be afraid to come.”
“I think it’s going to be well-attended.”
