The investigation into what caused a train to derail east of Fort Macleod on Sunday morning is under way.
Fort Macleod RCMP and Fort Macleod Fire Department responded about 8:15 a.m. Sunday to a report of a train derailment east of town.
RCMP Const. Patrick Lambert said in a news release the westbound train and about 43 cars carrying potash derailed.
There were no injuries reported or concerns to public safety.
CP Rail responded and initiated an investigation as well as clean-up operations..
Traffic on Highway 3 was re-routed to allow crews to work and lasted several hours.
Westbound traffic was being diverted onto the shoulder of Highway 3.
