A new video released by Alberta musicians is taking viewers on a speed date with the beauty of Alberta.
Calgary-based duo Scarlett Butler, made up of songwriters Joni Delaurier and Troy Kokol, released their Big Vacation video on their social media platforms and Youtube earlier this month.
The duo filmed at over 50 different locations across the province, including well-known points of interest, scenic viewpoints and other “made in Alberta” destinations.
The video features the couple singing in front of rapidly changing backgrounds, including one of Fort Macleod’s most notable grain elevators and Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump.
“We had some really awkward moments, and some really awesome ones, and some spectacular fails,” Delaurier said in a news release. “And we kept a lot of that in the video. I think it shows a lot of our personality, but with the backdrop of our beautiful home province.”
Armed with just their iPhones, a tripod and a wooden template that helped them stand in the same location in each shot.
In all, the couple filmed over 10 days, and drove a total of 3,458 kilometres.
“There are so many parts of Alberta we hadn’t been to yet, and others that we had only driven through but never gotten the chance to truly appreciate,” Kokol said. “We ended up meeting new people, shopping for local products, and learning a ton of history we would have never otherwise known.”
They say they could easily have done a second round of filming, acknowledging many spots that they weren’t able to incorporate.
“We might have to film a sequel with all the suggestions we have been getting,” Kokol said.
Big Vacation can be found at www.scarlettbutler.com, on YouTube or by visiting any of Scarlett Butler’s social media channels.
Scarlett Butler is relatively new as a music duo, and are better known individually for crafting hit songs for country artists like Shane Yellowbird, Brett Kissel, Tenille Townes and many others.
Delaurier and Kokol have been nationally recognized for their achievements as songwriters and won a SOCAN Award.
Their first single as a duo, Looking for a Lockdown With You landed them in the Billboard Canadian Top 50 and won them Alberta Songwriters of the Year.
This partnership is on-stage and off — yes, they’re married — and they stand on a solid foundation of well-crafted songs backed up by a soul-warming blend of harmonies.
