Fort Macleod celebrates Alberta Culture Days

Fort Macleod will join other centers in celebrating Alberta Culture Days.

Fort Macleod Allied Arts and Fort Macleod Library have organized events for Alberta Culture Days.

“This year’s Alberta Culture Days celebrates 15 years of bringing delightful expressions of art and culture to Alberta,” Arts, Culture and Status of Women Minister Tanya Fir said in a news release.

“I encourage Albertans to make time to celebrate the province’s diverse, rich, social and cultural tapestry this September.”

Sept. 1 kicked off Culture Days in Alberta, a month-long celebration of art, music, food, dance and more.

Throughout September, Albertans can visit numerous locations across the province to celebrate the province’s rich and vibrant culture.

Artists, cultural groups, writers, dancers, filmmakers and musicians will display their work that plays an integral part of weaving the rich cultural tapestry of Alberta.

The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Status of Women awarded 115 grants to organizations across the province to host Alberta Culture Days events.

Fort Macleod Allied Arts will organize an Art Walk from Sept. 11-15.

Businesses will support local artists and photographers and potters by displaying their work in their store.

People can go on a self-guided tour to see local artists.

Allied Arts will also host a gallery opening Sept. 14 from 6-8 p.m. featuring local artists, pottery, photography, paintings, jewelry, and music from all different backgrounds from southern Alberta.

Fort Macleod Library is organizing the Standing Strong Together Pop-up event on Sept. 21 from 4-9 p.m.

People will have the chance to learn about different cultures representing our friends and neighbors through dance, music and food.

Activities include the Alberta Wildflowers Photography Contest, ae pressed flower bookmark craft, a hands-on flower pounding art activity, a sheep shearing discussion, Indigenous storytellers.

There will also be jingle dress dancers and belly dancers, cultural food samplings, and performances by ethnic and local choirs.

The province provided $374,000 to assist with planning and coordinating a record 115 celebration sites across the province.

All Alberta Culture Days events are free and open to the public.
