Kimberley Dynamiters mined gold in the Southern Showdown U11 hockey tournament in Fort Macleod.
The Dynamiters went undefeated and knocked off the host Mavericks in the championship game Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks started the tournament in Pool A with Kimberley Dynamiters, Foremost Flyers and Eckville Eagles.
Pool B was made up of Lethbridge Lightning, Medicine Hat Kings, Trailswest Wolves and GHC Rangers.
Mavericks 6 Flyers 4
The Mavericks built a four-goal lead and withstood a late Flyers rally on Friday afternoon to win the first game of round-robin 6-4.
The Mavericks opened a 2-0 lead in the first period, which Foremost cut in half with the only goal of the second period.
Fort Macleod scored three consecutive goals to start the third period and were in control 5-l.
The teams traded goals to make the score 6-2 in Fort Macleod’s favour, but Foremost got two late goals to make the final 6-4.
Nolan Needham had two goals and an assist for Fort Macleod and Traeton English, Ava Hoglund, Lincoln Bredeweg and Jace Vandervalk also scored for the Mavericks.
Jackson Chester picked up an assist.
Willy Orich faced 16 shots in goal for Fort Macleod while his teammates peppered Foremost goalie Tove Morgan with 42 shots.
Dynamiters 7 Mavericks 2
Kimberley Dynamiters broke open a close game with four straight goals and handed the Mavericks a 7-2 loss Saturday afternoon.
The Dynamiters opened the scoring a minute into the game but Fort Macleod tied it on a goal by Lincoln Bredeweg, assisted by Nolan Needham.
The Dynamiters got goals 3 /12 minutes apart to go up 3-1 in the second period but Bredeweg pulled Fort Macleod close, assisted by Needham and Ava Hoglund.
Kimberley added two more goals in the second to take a 5-2 lead into the break and scored two more unanswered in the third to close out the 7-2 win.
Willy Orich faced 27 shots in the Fort Macleod goal while the Mavericks put just 10 on Kimberley goalie Isaac Perry.
Mavericks 10 Eagles 6
The Mavericks turned in a strong effort in their final round-robin game Saturday, beating Eckville Eagles 10-6.
Eckville opened the scoring two minutes into the game but the Mavericks responded with three straight goals to lead 3-1.
The teams went into the break with Fort Macleod leading 4-2 and the Mavericks increased their lead to 6-3 in the second.
Eckville battled and scored three times in the third period but the Mavericks stayed in control with four goals of their own to win 10-6.
Nolan Needham had three goals and two assists for Fort Macleod, Jace Vandervalk had three goals and one helper, and Lincoln Bredeweg had two goals and one assist.
Jackson Chester and Gage Eagleson scored the other Fort Macleod goals and Hudson Brauer and Caiden Vandervalk each had an assist.
Nate Wooldrik posted the win in goal for Fort Macleod, making 20 saves.
Mavericks 5 Lightning 4
Their 2-1 record in round-robin put the Mavericks in second place in their pool and set up a semifinal meeting with Lethbridge Lightning, who finished on top of their pool.
The Mavericks held off a late rally to edge the Lightning 5-4 to advance to the championship.
Fort Macleod took a 2-1 lead in the first period and held it through 40 minutes.
After the Lightning tied it 2-2 early in the third period the Mavericks scored three straight goals to take control.
Lethbridge got two late goals but could not find the equalizer.
Jackson Chester had a goal and two assists and Nolan Needham scored twice for Fort Macleod.
Traeton English and Caiden Vandervalk had the other Fort Macleod goals and Gage Eagleson and Jason Maljaars picked up assists.
Willy Orich made 26 saves to earn the win in goal for Fort Macleod.
Dynamiters 11 Mavericks 1
The Dynamiters exploded for 11 goals Sunday afternoon as they beat the Mavericks in the championship game.
Kimberley opened an 8-0 lead in the second period before Adrian Semyrozum scored Fort Macleod’s only goal, assisted by Jackson Chester and Nolan Needham.
Nate Wooldrik faced 26 shots in goal for Fort Macleod.
