The CPKC Holiday Train delivered a load of seasonal good cheer to Fort Macleod last week.
The brightly-decorated train delivered a $4,000 donation Dec. 12 to the Salvation Army’s food bank in Fort Macleod.
People attending the event filled a Salvation Army truck with donations of non-perishable food items and cash donations.
In return, the Fort Macleod audience was treated to performances by singers Kiesza and Tyler Shaw from a stage on a converted boxcar.
Lieut. Zac Marshall of the Salvation Army thanked people for supporting the food bank.
“The need is great, but your generosity is what keeps us going,” Marshall said.
Fort Macleod Mayor Brent Feyter praised Canadian Pacific Kansas City for its generosity.
“Thank you so much for doing this,” Feyter said. “Thank you for making the stop, we so appreciate it.”
The Holiday Train toured Canada and the United States from Nov. 20 through Dec. 19, raising money, food and awareness for the important work that food banks do in their communities.
Since its inception in 1999, the Holiday Train has raised more than $22.5-million and more than five million pounds of food for community food banks across North America.
