Shannon Harwood’s journey through the spiritual world didn’t end with the publication of her first book based on her experiences as an inspirational psychic medium.
Harwood published her second book, Continuing My Journeys Through the Spirit World, and was at Fort Macleod Library on Thursday for an author visit.
Harwood talked about her path in life and said her gift appeared when she was a young child, and it was confusing for her and her family.
“I was born this way,” Harwood said of her gift. “It took me years to figure out where I was going.”
Harwood knew she could hear and see things that other people couldn’t but didn’t understand why and struggled as a teenager.
“As a teenager my gift got extremely out of control,” Harwood told the 14 people at Fort Macleod Library. “I didn’t understand there was a good spirit world and a bad spirit world, and I didn’t understand that not everybody was like me.”
Harwood was rebellious as a teenager and drifted into drug and alcohol abuse, eventually running way from home and getting married at a young age.
“Even when I met my first husband my gifts were still largely out of control and I still didn’t understand what I was doing with them, and I struggled with alcohol and street drugs,” Harwood said.
One day Harwood realized one of the voices in her head was praying, which led to the realization she had both good and bad influences.
Harwood moved to Phoenix where she met another physic medium who provided direction on how to use her gifts for a higher purpose.
“I have been taught to be very careful with my energy,” Harwood said. “I’ve been taught that the message will come when it is supposed to. I don’t go seeking it, I don’t go looking for it, I don’t go encouraging it. I just let it come.”
Harwood trained to be an inspirational psychic medium and dedicated herself to using her gifts for God by helping people get in touch with their own angels and to understand that they are not alone.
In 2010 Harwood had an experience on the Highway of Tears in which she was contacted by the spirit of a young woman who had been murdered.
The young woman showed Harwood her murder and revealed the identity of the murderer.
Eventually Harwood shared the story with a friend’s husband who was in the RCMP, and who though initially skeptical arranged for a composite sketch based on Harwood’s description of the killer. The sketch was eventually matched with a mug shot of a man who is now dead.
Harwood was able to help the murder victim spiritually and move forward.
The was one of the stories Harwood included in her first book Journeys into the Realm of the Spirit World, which she published last year.
Continuing My Journeys Through the Spirit World contains more stories about Harwood’s experiences with people and pets who have passed away.
“My books talk a lot about spirituality, they talk a lot about forgiveness — for ourselves and for others,” Harwood said.
Continuing My Journeys Through the Spirit World is available on Amazon.
Harwood is scheduled for an appearance at the Granum Public Library on Friday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m.
