Vintage and custom vehicles will cruise into Fort Macleod on Saturday, June 15 for the Checkmates Car Club’s annual show ‘n’ shine.
More than 100 vehicles are expected to line Main Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“If the weather is good, there will be a lot of beautiful cars,” Checkmates president Bill Jenkins said.
The Fort Macleod show typically attracts a wide range of vintage and custom vehicles, from Model Ts to Lamborghinis — and everything in between.
People bring their vehicles from Fort Macleod, Claresholm, Pincher Creek, Picture Butte, Coalhurst, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and across Alberta.
Jenkins said there is always something new to see and appreciate at the show.
“It’s quite interesting,” Jenkins said. “You’re going to see old stuff, you’re going to see new stuff. You’ll see a couple motorcycles. There will be a lot of beautiful cars.”
Vehicles will begin arriving as early as 9 a.m., with registration starting at 10 a.m.
The car club rents the Welcome Mat on Main Street for its registration centre.
Checkmates secretary-treasurer Adrian Stetski will be the event DJ.
Entries in the Checkmates Car Club’s show will be reviewed by independent judges, with 10 vehicle owners receiving a plaque and $100.
Vehicles entered by the Checkmates Car Club members are not eligible for judging.
“Our club doesn’t win any of the prizes,” Jenkins stressed.
Everyone who registers their vehicle and pays the $10 fee will receive a goodie bag filled with prizes donated by Fort Macleod and district businesses.
Everyone who registers is eligible for draws for prizes donated by the Fort Macleod and district business community.
“We can’t do it without the sponsors,” Jenkins said of the strong community support.
Jenkins estimates 700 to 800 people turn out to look at the cars.
“People get kind of excited about it,” Jenkins said.
The Fort Macleod Chamber of Commerce is hosting its antique, art and gun sale and show the same weekend.
It is anticipated that people attending the car show will take in the antique sale, and vice versa.
All the major automotive brands are usually represented on Main Street during the Checkmates show ‘n’ shine.
“It all depends on the weather,” Jenkins said. “If we get good weather we’ll get lots of cars.”
