Gospel jamboree marks 25th anniversary

A group of dedicated volunteers has been working for a quarter of a century to bring a joyful noise to Granum every July.

The Willow Creek Gospel Music Jamboree marks its 25th anniversary on July 19-21.

Admission is by free will offering.

The mission of the Willow Creek Gospel Music Jamboree Association is to present the gospel through music, valuing interfaith relationships, and Christian heritage.

The association promotes a family friendly community through the jamboree, which provides a venue for developing western Canadian Christian musicians.

Performing at the jamboree this year are the Pilkey Sisters, Freedom Singers, Canada’s Double Portion and The Tapleys.

Simon Ivascu, Steven Ivascu and Wesley Pop fled their native Romania to avoid mandatory army service, being conscientious objectors.

They formed Freedom Singers and began performing southern gospel in 2000.

Canada’s Double Portion from North Battleford, Sask. is an eight-piece gospel band made up of parents Duncan and Debbie Hemmerling and six of their 10 children.

The Pilkey Sisters — Harmony, Destiny and Britteny — began performing as children and now sing southern gospel.
