Fort Macleod Mavericks battled to the semifinals of their own U11 Southern Showdown hockey tournament before bowing out.
The Mavericks hosted seven other teams in the three-day tournament.
Winterhawks 6 Mavericks 5
The tournament opened Friday afternoon with Lethbridge Winterhawks edging the Mavericks 6-5.
After a scoreless first period Lethbridge took a 4-0 lead only to have Fort Macleod cut the lead to 4-3 by the end of the second period.
The third period was back-and-forth with the Winterhawks holding on for a 6-5 win.
Cohen Vanee had three goals and an assist for Fort Macleod and Grayson Feyter had a goal and an assist.
Asaan Yellowhorn had the other Mavericks goal and Jovin Sharma and Joseph Delaney each had an assist.
Mavericks goalie Nate Wooldrik faced 16 shots.

Jovin Sharma’s goal with 1:16 to play Saturday afternoon lifted the Mavericks into a 5-5 tie with Medicine Hat Wildcats.
Fort Macleod started strong, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period and adding another goal early in the second.
The Wildcats clawed back into it with four consecutive second-period goals to lead 4-3, but Fort Macleod tied it with two minutes left in the period.
Medicine Hat took a 5-4 lead with 8:43 to play, but the Mavericks gained the tie with Sharma’s late goal.
Cohen Vanee had two goals and two assists for the Mavericks, Jovin Sharma had a goal and an assist and Asaan Yellowhorn and Joseph Delaney also scored.
Grayson Feyter, Adrian Semyrozum and Memphis Van Herk each had an assist.
Nate Wooldrik was back in goal, making 19 saves.

The Mavericks closed out round-robin Saturday night with the 23-0 destruction of Calgary Inferno Charge.
Cohen Vanee led the Mavericks attack with six goals and four assists, Nate Wooldrik had three goals and two assists, Hudson Brauer had two goals and three assists and Adrian Semyrozum had four goals.
Grayson Feyter had two goals and two assists, Asaan Yellowhorn had two goals and one helper, Tate Roelofsen and Jovin Sharma each had a goal and an assist, Memphis Van Herk scored once and Joseph Delaney and Hudson Provost each had one assist.
Greyson Vandervalk recorded a shutout, stopping just one shot.
Lethbridge Winterhawks placed first in Pool A with three wins and no losses, following by Fort Macleod (1-1-1), Medicine Hat (1-1-1) and Calgary Inferno Charge (0-3).
Pool B was topped by Cardston Thunder (3-0), followed by Foremost Flyers (2-1), Lethbridge Bandits (1-2) and Calgary Inferno Flyers (0-3).
Thunder 8 Mavericks 6
Their second-place finish in round-robin sent the Mavericks into a semifinal game Sunday against the top team from Pool B, the Cardston Thunder.
The semifinal was a high-scoring affair with Cardston withstanding a late Fort Macleod comeback to win 8-6 to advance to the championship game.
The Thunder rumbled to a 4-2 lead in the opening period of the semifinal, and each team scored once in the second frame.
Fort Macleod scored 31 seconds into the third period to narrow Cardston’s lead to 5-4 but the Thunder responded with back-to-back goals a minute and a half apart.
The Mavericks scored two more goals to pull to within a goal, but the Thunder closed out the scoring with a goal with 57 seconds left to win 8-6.
Cohen Vanee scored five goals for Fort Macleod and Adrian Semyrozum had one.
Nate Wooldrik picked up two assists and Neveah Provost, Asaan Yellowhorn, Jovin Sharma and Grayson Feyter each had one helper.
Mavericks goalie Greyson Vandervalk faced 34 shots, while the Mavericks got 16 on Thunder goalie Leo Young Pine.
Cardston advanced to the tournament championship game, where they doubled Lethbridge Winterhwks 10-5.
