Mable Loyst

May 6, 1927 — Feb. 10, 2025

Mable Annie Elizabeth Loyst passed away peacefully at Extendicare in Fort Macleod on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025.

Mable was predeceased by her husband, Leonard (1995); her parents Andrew and Annie Pitchko; brothers Edward, Roman (Mabel), and Arthur (Sandy); sister Magdaline (Puggie) (Junior) Wintemute and Blanche (John) Tomik; in-laws Walter and Mae Loyst; brother-in-law Boyd (Louise); and sisters-in-law Olive, Leone and Frances.

Mable was born in Carmel, Sask. on May 6, 1927, and moved to Wembly, Alta. as a young child. When her father purchased the North Star garage at the west end of Main Street (where Fort Macleod Agencies is now located), the entire family relocated to Macleod where she completed her education.

As a teenager, Mable was very popular and outgoing, even participating in the Macleod Stampede princess competition along with two of her peers. Her employment in Bawden’s Bakery before marriage fostered a lifelong love of baking.

Leonard and Mable farmed south of Fort Macleod and on the Blood Reserve for many years. As a dedicated teacher, Mable enjoyed her tenure and subbing at the Saipoyi Community School in Stand Off until she was almost eighty! After retirement, she settled in Fort Macleod where she resided until her passing.
