The councils of the MD of Willow Creek and towns of Nanton, Stavely, Claresholm and Fort Macleod on Thursday announced the renewal of the intermunicipal emergency services agreement, reaffirming their commitment to providing exceptional emergency response services to all citizens across the region.
This agreement ensures a consistent and effective level of service for fire, rescue, and other emergency services to citizens in the MD of Willow Creek.
This collaborative approach allows for resource sharing, mutual aid, and enhanced training opportunities for emergency responders.
The level of service refers to the standard of emergency response provided to the community.
It includes factors such as response times, types of incidents attended, and the availability of trained personnel and equipment.
Through this renewed agreement, residents can continue to rely on professional, timely, and capable emergency services when they need them most.
Over the last five years, the five fire departments have collectively:
- Responded to more than 3,461 emergency calls, ranging from structure fires and medical responses to vehicle collisions and wildfires.
- Responded to 337 mutual aid requests to assist partner communities.
- Trained 60 firefighters to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, ensuring that responders are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to handle diverse emergency scenarios.
- Had the benefit of long serving members, who as a group bring hundreds of years of knowledge and experience to every situation.
- Delivered 3,703 hours of instruction, reflecting a strong focus on continual training, skill enhancement, and safety practices.
- Committed 28,880 hours of firefighter’s time to training.
“Renewing this agreement showcases our regions dedication to protecting lives, property, and the environment in our communities,” MD of Willow Creek Reeve Maryanne Sandberg said. “The investments our communities have made in training and equipment over the past five years has significantly strengthened our ability to respond to emergencies.”
The councils of the MD of Willow Creek and towns of Nanton, Stavely, Claresholm and Fort Macleod each extended their thanks to the region’s firefighters and partner agencies for their dedication, commitment and collaboration.
