Fort Macleod offers many ways to celebrate Seniors’ Week

Fort Macleod is celebrating its elders in style this month.

Fort Macleod Healthy Aging, Pioneer Lodge and Fort Macleod Library have activities planned for Seniors’ Week and beyond.

Healthy Aging

Pie and coffee or tea will be served to citizens aged 55 years and over from 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 6.

Health Aging Alberta is hosting a social gathering in the courtyard at the G.R. Davis Administration Building.

People are encouraged to bring their ideas for programming that Healthy Aging Alberta can offer Fort Macleod seniors.

Heathy Aging Alberta is also organizing a series of guided walks through Fort Macleod in June.

The first walk is a tour of Fort Macleod’s historic cemeteries on Thursday, June 5.

On June 12 there is a tour of the town’s historic buildings; on June 19 people will be shown interesting community spots; and on June 26 the group will stroll the Oldman River pathway.

The walks, which are about three kilometres, begin at 6:30 p.m. and are open to seniors and everyone else in the community.

The meeting point is the parking lot behind Digbee’s Diner.

Pioneer Lodge

Pioneer Lodge got an early start on Seniors’ Week activities when students from Providence Christian school turned out Wednesday to clean lodge residents’ vehicles.

On Friday, lodge residents enjoyed Pub Night with music supplied by Doug and Friends.

On Monday, Personal Touch Fashions was at the lodge to showcase clothes for residents.

Due to the weather, the annual carnival planned for Monday was postponed to Wednesday, June 11 from 1-3 p.m.

On Tuesday, residents planned to have lunch with members of the Checkmates Car Club, and then enjoy rides in the vintage vehicles to get an ice cream treat.

Pioneer Lode will host its annual barbecue on Thursday, June 5, with Mick and Dona Guyette and their band providing entertainment from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

On Friday, June 6 the lodge residents will enjoy a visit to Waterton Lakes National Park.

Seniors Showdown Bingo is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 at Pioneer Lodge.

Dusty Litchfield will provide the entertainment for Pub Night at the lodge at 7 p.m. Friday, June 27.

On Monday, June 30 the Klassen family will entertain residents at 3:15 p.m.

Fort Macleod Library

A video of seniors sharing their wisdom will be shown at Fort Macleod Library daily from June 2-6.

People are invited to drop in and watch the video at any time.

Al Poytress and Aaron Poytress of Fort Macleod Chiropractic, along with Chelsie Wolff of Horizon Herbs, were to be at the library on Tuesday for a presentation on healthy aging.

On Wednesday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. Fort Macleod resident Tyson Knauf will bring his pet snakes and spiders to the library for a presentation.

From 1-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 seniors and other community member can try their hand at indoor curling in the library.
