Santa Claus will tour Fort Macleod on Wednesday, Dec. 3 with the RCMP, Fort Macleod Fire Department and EMS in the Sirens for the Season event.
Don’t be alarmed when the sirens sound the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 3 — they’re only signalling the return of a Fort Macleod tradition.
A parade of police, fire department and EMS vehicles will tour the town from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 3.
Sirens for the Season is intended to spread Christmas joy while collecting donations of toys to be distributed to local children.
RCMP Const. Roxanne Noss has taken the lead in organizing this year and reports that plans are coming together.
That includes Santa Claus agreeing to ride in the procession as it weaves through Fort Macleod.
Santa will be joined by a host of other characters, including The Grinch, some Minions, and Olaf.
Participants in Sirens for the Season will meet at about 5:30 p.m. at the RCMP detachment and then travel along most streets in Fort Macleod.
Sirens on the RCMP, Fort Macleod Fire Department and EMS vehicles will herald the approach of Santa.
Toys that are donated along the route or dropped off at the RCMP detachment will go to the Heart of Fort Macleod campaign headed by Fort Macleod Family and Community Support Services (FCSS).
FCSS will accept donations to the Heart of Fort Macleod campaign until Dec. 12.
FCSS will then distribute the toys to children whose families need support this Christmas.
The RCMP will conduct a Candy Cane Charity Checkstop on Dec. 6 to collect more donations of toys while encouraging people not to drink and drive during the holiday season.
