Calgary folk-pop singer Amy Bishop brings her Christmas show to the Empress Theatre on Friday, Dec. 2.
The Empress Theatre kicks off the season with Calgary folk-pop singer Amy Bishop’s Christmas show and sing-along on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Bishop and her trio will perform a jolly mix of songs from her Christmas album, some Christmas classics, a few sing-along carols and her blazing rendition of Leonard Cohen’s iconic song Hallelujah.
Hailing from Calgary, Bishop began her music career around campfires, at block parties, and in church choir.
Knowing a career in music is no guarantee, Bishop decided to practice other trades, but her passion for music prevailed, leading her to collaborations with Moby and opening for April Wine, Farmer’s Daughter, and Chris Cummings.
In 2018, Bishop appeared on CTV’s The Launch, a reality competition series that had artists being coached by celebrity mentors such as Shania Twain, Boy George, Fergie, Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Alessia Cara and hair-metal rocker Nikki Sixx.
Bishop and Sixx, Motley Crue’s founder and bassist, collaborated on her song Brand New Day.
The mother of five’s most recent solo album, Perfect & Broken, includes songs that delve into regret, defiance, body image, self-acceptance and overcoming trauma.
Bishop’s appearance on The Launch opened industry doors as she was quickly signed by both a booking agency and management company.
In March 2019 Bishop performed at the prestigious Canadian Screen Awards in Toronto.
Bishop’s voice is a combination of smooth pavement and rough gravel, and she charms listeners with her sweet tones and stuns them with the ability to hit any high note.
Bishop has an instinctive ability to craft stories into song and deliver them with sincerity and passion, all qualities that make her an undeniable Canadian talent.
