Margaret Sadie Archibald passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, Nov. 28, 2025, at the age of 89 years.
Margaret was truly a Fort Macleod girl, she lived her whole life in Fort Macleod and area. Her parents were Gordon and Sadie Gray and she lived on a farm on Willow Creek near Granum before moving to their farm south of Fort Macleod. She was from a large family, with seven brothers, Fred, Bert, Bill (Haven), Leonard, Bob, Roy and Larry, as well as four sisters, Ethel Jackman, Isobel Ransom. Beth Gillard and Kay Bartlett. Mom was the last remaining sibling in her family.
Margaret was married to husband Dwayne for 62 years before his death in 2015. They had three children, two daughters, Judy, Vickie and son Tracy.
Vickie had one son Damien of Calgary (wife Dali and children Marcus and Mila) but sadly she passed away in 2014.
Tracy and wife Kelly of Calgary have three children Randy (Lisa), sons Landon, Ethan, Noah, daughter Ashlee (Patrick) son Howard, and daughter Jamie and her son Jaydan. They all live in the Vancouver area.
Judy (Gary) Sproule of Hussar have three sons Jared (Kelsey), girls Eliza and Poppy of Kimberley B.C., Kirk (Carmelle) daughters Nina and Miley of Calgary and Quinn (Hailee) daughter Winnie of Lethbridge.
Margaret is survived by sister-in-law Clara Fowler and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom taught herself to play the piano and guitar and when there were family get togethers at the farm enjoyed musical evenings with her family. She also learned how to knit and crochet and family and friends received many handcrafted items from her.
Margaret returned to school as an adult, when the kids were older, and trained as a hairdresser. She worked for two shops downtown before deciding to open a shop in her own home until she retired. Mom always enjoyed her “ladies” and we teased her that she was one of the original trend setters in working from home.
Margaret enjoyed bowling, golf and curling for several years. She liked to decorate cakes, garden, and read as well as enjoying card games, Yahtzee, crossword puzzles, Scrabble and outings to various casinos. Mom was often the hostess for family meals and we were fortunate to have many family members nearby. Mom and Dad enjoyed driving vacations and travelled to many places in western Canada and the United States.
A family graveside service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2025, followed by a luncheon at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Church Hall, 220 20th St., Fort Macleod. Friends and family are invited to join Margaret’s family in celebrating her life.
The family would like to thank close friend, Lauretta Jenkins, staff and caregivers at the Pioneer Lodge, medical staff at Fort Macleod Health Centre and clinic, ambulance crew and emergency staff at the Chinook Regional hospital for their care of Mom.
