Need a bike?
Have a bike you want to sell or donate?
Chris and Laura Grant can help you out.
The Grants started Alberta Bike Swap in 2011 to create a safe place to buy, sell and donate bikes.
Lethbridge Bike Swap is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at Lethbridge Exhibition Park.
The Grants are passionate about cycling.
“You can get someplace efficiently, and you have time to think and you get your exercise,” Chris Grant said. “And it’s a low carbon way to get around.”
People can bring their bikes to the bike swap, where it will be tech-checked and have the serial number recorded.
There is a fee to get a bike into the swap. When it sells, payment will be sent by etransfer or cheque.
“People bring their bikes and donate them at the bike swap and we give them to different groups,” Laura Grant added.
Alberta Bike Swap has donated bikes to more than 40 community groups.
“We’re going to be a conduit for the goodness in Alberta,” Laura Grant said. “Bikes provide transportation security — everybody can use a bike to get around.”
Alberta Bike Swap operates as a non-profit.
“Our interest is in promoting a cycling lifestyle,” Chris Grant said. “So we don’t charge for that.”
Laura Grant said it is important to give back to society.
“If you saw the number of people who smile when they get that perfect bike, that actually makes every single thing worthwhile,” Laura Grant said.
