East Coast singer-songwriter Catherine MacLellan performs at the Empress Theatre on Feb. 6 as part of the Centre Stage Series.
East Coast performer Catherine MacLellan is making her way to the Empress Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 6 as part of the 2024-’2025 Centre Stage Series.
With a voice described as “sweet and powerfully expressive,” MacLellan has captivated audiences world-wide for over two decades. Hailing from Prince Edward Island, her music beautifully reflects a deep connection to her home and its people.
MacLellan’s passion for songwriting runs in the family; her father, Gene MacLellan, wrote beloved hits like Snowbird and Put Your Hand in the Hand along with many more classic Canadian songs.
While MacLellan’s music is rooted in folk and roots, her sound has evolved to embrace a wider range of influences over the course of her seven albums.
From heart-wrenching ballads to uplifting anthems, MacLellan’s music has a universal appeal that speaks to the struggles, triumphs, and joys of life.
In addition to her musical pursuits, MacLellan has also dedicated herself to shining a light on her father’s legacy, producing an award-winning documentary and stage show that explore his life and struggles with mental health.
MacLellan has had an opportunity the past few years to collaborate with other PEI songwriters —and Empress alumni — Irish Mythen and Rose Cousins, co-writing and sharing new songs.
Through it all, MacLellan remains committed to the craft of songwriting and the art of connection.
Whether she’s playing to a packed theatre or an intimate gathering, MacLellan’s warm presence and heartfelt music create an unforgettable experience for all who hear her.
