Emergency services personnel receive medals

Two long-time emergency services personnel with the MD of Willow Creek were recognized with Alberta Emergency Services Medals.

Livingstone-Macleod MLA Chelsae Petrovic was at the Sept. 24 council meeting to present medals to Kelly Starling and Sean Kelly.

Starling received his 22-year bar for the Alberta Emergency Services Medal as a dedicated and valued member of the MD of Willow Creek in the following emergency services positions: director of emergency services and fire chief; community peace officer; and director of emergency management.

Starling completed almost 10 years of continuous service with the municipality.

Kelly received his 12-year Alberta Emergency Services Medal as a dedicated and valued member of the MD of Willow Creek emergency services position of deputy fire chief.

Kelly was promoted to fire chief on Sept. 29, and has completed six years of service with the MD of Willow Creek.

Petrovic, who worked in health care before she entered the legislature, could not recall a time she did not see Starling and Kelly in emergency services.

“I always remember you in service roles,” Petrovic said.

Petrovic stressed the importance of emergency services personnel always ready to answer the call at any time.

“I get to sleep really well at night because of you,” Petrovic said.

“I’m so thankful for all you’ve done for our communities,” Petrovic added.

Reeve Maryanne Sandberg also said a few words.

“We really appreciate all our emergency services crews do for us,” Sandberg said.

The Alberta Emergency Services Medal honours emergency services personnel who are involved in supporting emergency prevention, preparedness and response in Alberta, and who have committed 12, 22, 32, and 40 years of service.
