The F.P. Walshe Flyers battled to win the bronze medal Saturday at the senior high boys south zone volleyball championship tournament.
The Flyers caged Crowsnest Pass Panthers in the bronze medal match of the tournament played at Lethbridge College.
Pool A in the zone tournament included Kate Andrews Pride, Immanuel Christian Eagles and J.T. Foster Knights.
Pool B featured the Flyers, Crowsnest Pass Panthers and Matthew Halton Hawks.
The Flyers, who were ranked No. 2 going into the tournament, were dominant in their first match on Thursday, sweeping the Hawks 25-11 and 25-14.
In their next match on Friday, the Flyers dominated Crowsnest Pass Panthers, posting wins of 25-11 and 25-20 to sweep the match.
Their record of four wins and no losses put the Flyers first in Pool B, followed by Crowsnest Pass (2-2) and Matthew Halton (0-4).
In Pool A, Kate Andrews (4-0) placed first, followed by Immanuel Christian (2-2) and J.T. Foster (0-4).
In the playoffs, Immanuel Christian beat Matthew Halton and Crowsnest Pass beat J.T. Foster.
The Eagles moved on to face the Flyers in one semifinal, while Kate Andrews took on Crowsnest Pass.
The Eagles upset the Flyers in two close sets, winning 25-23 and 25-22 to advance to the finals.
Kate Andrews polished off Crowsnest Pass to advance to the finals.
F.P. Walshe and Crowsnest Pass went to the bronze medal playoff on Saturday night.
The Flyers earned the bronze medal as they swept the Panthers 25-9 and 25-19.
The No. 1-ranked Kate Andrews Pride lived up to their billing as they swept Immanuel Christian 25-12 and 25-21 to claim the gold medal. Both teams advance to provincials.
