RCMP seized a firearm and ammunition during a Feb. 9 traffic stop on Highway 2.
RCMP charged a Sparwood man with weapons offences following a Feb. 9 traffic stop in Fort Macleod.
Alberta RCMP Traffic Services was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 2 about 5:56 p.m. Feb. 9 when it observed a vehicle travelling eastbound at 178 km-h in a posted 100 km-h zone.
A traffic stop was initiated on a 2003 Black Volkswagen Golf with British Columbia plates.
The driver and lone occupant was arrested for dangerous driving.
Fort Macleod RCMP attended and assisted the investigation.
Police located a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition and break and enter tools.
Jacob Douglas Mayne, 22, of Sparwood, B.C., is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.
Mayne is also charged with unauthorized possession of firearm, possession of ammunition in a motor vehicle, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition, and three counts of possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.
The RCMP also charged Mayne with two counts of possession of break-in instruments.
Mayne faces further charges of driving while uninsured, operating a motor vehicle without registration, operating a motor vehicle without a licence, and operating a motor vehicle contrary to conditions.
Mayne was held for a judicial interim hearing and later released with an order to appear in Fort Macleod provincial court on March 8.
