Flyers, coach in Chinook all-star game

The F.P. Walshe Flyers sent three players and a coach to the Chinook Basketball League all-star game Wednesday.

Ilia Korkunov, Hudson Bare Shin Bone and Payton Provost of the Flyers played for Team 1 in the game at County Central high school in Vulcan.

Flyers coach Wes Gurney coached Team 1 along with County Central coaches.

Other Team 1 players were Vance Jackson, Mason Clarke and Josh Davidson from County Central Hawks, Lance Feestra and Luka Lange from Noble Central Blades and Brennan McInnes and Diesel Green from Coalhurst Crusaders.

The Team 2 line-up featured Luca Citrigno, Riley McCollister and Carter Nimchuk from St. Mike’s Dragons, Thunder Wadsworth, Lazerus Weasel Head and CJ Wells from Kainai Warriors, Liam McGee and Shawn Smyth from Livingstone Sabres, and Hunter McMullen and Fynn Mackintosh from Matthew Halton Hawks.

Team 2 was led by coaches from St. Mike’s and Kainai.

Team 2 took an early lead and rolled to a 76-61 victory.

Team 2 went out in front 16-11 in the first quarter and by halftime were leading 38-20.

By the end of the third quarter Team 2 was leading 60-37, and while Team 1 made up some ground in the fourth quarter they fell short 76-61.

Carter Nimchuk from St. Mike’s was the game’s top scorer with 22 points for Team 2.

Javier Morning Owl scored 19 for Team 2, Liam McGee had seven, Riley McCollister had six, Luca Citrigno and Fynn Mackintosh each had five, Shaun Smyth had four, Hunter McMullen had three, and Lazerus Weasel Head had two.

Vance Jackson led Team 1 with 16 points and Payton Provost had 10.

Josh Davidson had nine points for Team 1, Lance Feestra had eight, Hudson Bare Shin Bone had six, Luka Lange and Ilia Korkunov each had four and Mason Chase and Brennan McInnes each had two.
