It was a bronze medal finish Saturday for the F.P. Walshe Flyers at the 2A south zone high school boys’ volleyball playoff tournament.
The Flyers beat J.T. Foster Knights from Nanton in the bronze medal playoff at Immanuel Christian school in Lethbridge.
The Flyers are Logan Van Herk, Daniel Boot, AJ Poytress, Ethan Baxter, Kornell Van Den Hoek, Nate Keller, Logan Boot, Carter Henderson, Rylan Baxter, Travis Loyst and Jacob Allen.
Coaches are Anthony Burdett, Jordan Gunderson, Ben Oosterwijk and Zach Grant.
The Flyers opened the tournament in Pool B with Crowsnest Pass Panthers and J.T. Foster Knights.
Pool A was made up of Immanuel Christian Eagles, Kate Andrews Pride and Matthew Halton Hawks.
The Flyers took on J.T. Foster Knights in the first match of round-robin, edging the Knights 2-1.
F.P. Walshe won the first set 25-13 but the Knights fought back to win the second set 25-23 to force a tie-breaker.
The Flyers settled the match with a 15-6 win in the third set.
The Flyers took on Crowsnest Pass on Friday night in their second match of round-robin.
The Flyers swept the Panthers 25-20 and 25-16.
F.P. Walshe placed first in Pool B with a record of 4-1, followed by J.T. Foster (3-2) and Crowsnest Pass (0-4).
Immanuel Christian (4-0) finished on top of Pool A, followed by Kate Andrews (2-2) and Matthew Halton (0-4).
Their first-place finish in the pool in round-robin gave the Flyers a bye into the second round of the playoffs.
The Flyers took on Kate Andrews, who beat Crowsnest Panthers in the first round.
The Pride swept the Flyers 25-10 and 25-21 to advance to the championship.
The loss sent the Flyers to the bronze medal playoff against J.T. Foster Knights, who beat Matthew Halton in the first round but lost to Immanuel Christian in the semifinals.
The Flyers and Knights engaged in a spirited battle in the first set, with J.T. Foster rallying from 24-19 to send the set into extra points.
The teams went back-and-forth, with the Flyers prevailing 30-28.
F.P. Walshe made it a clean sweep with a 25-15 win in the second set to claim the bronze medals.
