Fort Macleod Legion set to host Remembrance Day service

Community members will gather at the Fort Macleod and District Community Hall at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 for the annual Remembrance Day service.

The Fort Macleod Legion is finalizing details for the event. which will be directed by master of ceremonies Alan Poytress.

The service opens with the singing of O Canada led by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints choir.

Rev. MiYeon Kim of Trinity United Church will give the prayer of invocation.

The Last Post will be played by bugler George F. Kush as flags are lowered in advance of two minutes of silence.

Piper Colin McDevon will play The Lament, which is followed by George F. Kush playing Reveille as the flags are raised.

Legion District 6 Commander Gail Pontarolo will offer a reflection on the price of peace, and will then recite the Act of Remembrance.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints choir will lead the singing of the hymn It Is Well With My Soul.

Rev. Kim will then offer scripture reading from Revelations 21:1-7.

Nevayah Fox will recite the poem In Flanders Fields, which was written by Canadian Col. John McCrae during World War One.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints choir will lead the singing of the hymn Faith of Our Fathers.

Gage Eagleson will recite the poem The Lost, by Stephen W. Atkinson.

The next order of business is the laying of the following wreaths:

Once the wreaths have been placed, Rev. Kim will offer a prayer and benediction, followed by the Commitment to Remember led by Alan Poytress. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints choir will lead the singing of God Save the King. Master of ceremonies Alan Poytress will then conclude the service.
