Fort Macleod mayor receives Queen’s platinum medal

Fort Macleod’s mayor was one of about 100 outstanding Albertans who received Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medals Dec. 4, at a ceremony hosted by Alberta Municipalities at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Calgary.

Mayor Brent Feyter was among citizen community builders, sitting mayors and past Alberta Municipalities presidents and lifetime members from central and southern Alberta on hand to receive medals in recognition of their significant contributions to Canada, Alberta and the communities in which they live and serve.

“These medals recognize the remarkable contributions made by so many community leaders and change-makers from across central and southern Alberta,” Alberta Municipalities president Cathy Heron said.

“They remind us of how much can be accomplished when we support one another and work together to make our communities great places in which to live, work and raise families.”

The government of Alberta struck 7,000 Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medals to commemorate Her Majesty’s unsurpassed 70-year reign.

The medals are being distributed to worthy recipients on behalf of the provincial government by numerous partner organizations, including Alberta Municipalities.

Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medals were presented to all sitting mayors in Alberta.

Feyter was first elected to Fort Macleod council in 2013.

In 2017 Feyter was elected mayor of Fort Macleod, and in 2021 he was re-elected to the position.

Feyter runs Structural Truss Systems, the business his father Frans Feyter started in 1981.

In addition to serving on council, Feyter has been involved with the Fort Macleod Chamber of Commerce, Fort Macleod Municipal Planning Commission, Highway 3 Twinning Association, Fort Macleod Historical Association, Alberta Home Education Association, and as a board member of the United Conservative Party.
