Alex Van Herk of Fort Macleod was detained for several hours last month at the Fort Macleod RCMP detachment, prompting friends and supporters to gather outside the building.
RCMP have charged three men, including a Fort Macleod town councillor, in connection with the Coutts border protest.
The two men from Fort Macleod and a third from Taber are charged with mischief under $5,000.
“These charges stem from these individuals’ being key participants of the Coutts border blockade that took place between Jan. 29 to Feb. 15,” RCMP media relations manager Logan Fraser said Friday in a news release.
Charged are Fort Macleod town councillor Marco Van Huigenbos, 32, and Alex Van Herk, 53, also of Fort Macleod, and Gerhard (George) Janzen, 43, of Taber.
The three men were released from custody with an order to appear in Lethbridge provincial court on Oct. 4.
