Fort Macleod Royals sweep Knights in doubleheader

The Fort Macleod Royals played the first home games Saturday in their 40th anniversary season.

The Royals beat Medicine Hat Knights 11-6 and 6-5 to sweep the American Legion baseball doubleheader at Westwinds Stadium. 

Next action for the Royals is Sunday, May 25 when the Cranbrook Bandits are in town for a 1 p.m. start

On Sunday, June 1 the Royals host Tri-County Cardinals at 1 p.m.

Royals 11 Knights 6

A seven-run third inning powered the Royals to an 11-6 win over Medicine Hat Knights in the first game of the twin bill.

The teams were tied 2-2 when Fort Macleod exploded for seven runs to break open a tight game.

Kaden Lee got the start and pitched four innings for the Royals, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Jack Hewlett pitched three innings in relief, giving up one run on one hit with three strikeouts.

Cashe Kropinak went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and scored two runs.

Cooper Hall had a double and three RBI in four at-bats, and scored a run.

Junior Young Pine went 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBI and scored two runs and Zak Wright went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored a run.

Brody Lindgren had a triple and scored a run for Fort Macleod and Cal Schmid went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI. a walk and scored two runs.

The Royals got a triple and five doubles in the game as they flexed their offensive muscles.

It was a similar story in the second game of the doubleheader as Fort Macleod scored five runs in the fourth on their way to a 6-5 win.

Medicine Hat was leading 4-1 when the Royals rallied to take a 6-4 lead and hold it the rest of the way.

Jordan Hurst took the mound to start the game, pitching 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts while allowing four runs on four hits and three walks.

Brody Lindgren pitched an inning in relief, giving up a run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

Zak Wright pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief, shutting out the Knights while striking out four batters.

Cal Schmid went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and scored a run and Zak Wright went 2-for-4 with a double.

Nixon Strangway, Kaden Lee and Jack Hewlett each had an RBI.

On May 9 at Prairie Baseball Academy, the CBA Archers blanked the Royals 11-0, but the Fort Macleod team rebounded to edge Cranbrook Bandits 7-6 later the same day.

On May 10, the Royals dropped a 12-5 decision to Lethbridge Lakers at Yoshinaka Field in Lethbridge.

Then on May 11 the Red Deer Riggers shut out the Royals 5-0.

The Royals played in Libby, Montana on April 26-27 to kick off the exhibition schedule.

On April 26 the Royals fell 15-4 to Libby but rallied to win the next game 16-15.

The following day the Royals beat Libby 15-8 and 15-11.
