Fort Macleod U11 Mavericks claim championship banner

The Fort Macleod Mavericks are the Central Alberta Tier 4 U11 Hockey League’s green division champions.

The Mavericks beat Okotoks 8-4 and 9-2 on the weekend to sweep their best-of-three championship series.

The Mavericks are Nate DeKok, Pryce Schneider, Matthew McNab, Ryder Nielson, Madison Van Buuren, Cooper Sharratt, Hayden DeKok, Kyle Gillingham, Layne Sharratt, Kenni Smith, William Kerr, Drayden Creighton, Emily English, Carter Three Persons, Elliot English, Owen Archibald, and Cobin Young Pine Twigg.

Head coach is Kevin DeKok, assistant coaches are Lyndon Van Buuren, Jadon Sharratt and Landon Schneider, trainer is Kyle Nielson and manager is Jenna Schneider.

Mavericks 8 Okotoks 4

The best-of-three series opened Saturday morning at Fort Macleod and District Sports Centre, with the Mavericks doubling the Oilers 8-4.

Fort Macleod took the lead with the only goal of the first period and extended it to 6-2 in the middle frame.

Okotoks scored two goals early in the third period to pull within two goals, but Nate DeKok scored his second and third goals of the game on big slapshots from the point to make it 8-4.

Nate DeKok also had an assist to complete a four-point game for the Mavericks, and Matthew McNab had two goals and two assists.

Hayden DeKok and Pryce Schneider each had a goal and an assist for Fort Macleod and Ryder Nielson also scored.

Madison Van Buuren had two assists and Owen Archibald, Layne Sharratt and Drayden Creighton each had one helper.

Mavericks 9 Okotoks 2

The Mavericks left nothing to chance Sunday in Okotoks, pounding the host team 9-2 to sweep the best-of-three series and claim the banner.

The teams skated through a scoreless first period but the floodgates opened early in the second as they combined for 10 goals, with Fort Macleod leading 8-2 after 40 minutes.

The Mavericks added one more goal late in the third period to cap the 9-2 victory.

Nate DeKok led the Fort Macleod attack with three goals and Pryce Schneider , Madison Van Buuren and Matthew McNab each had a goal and an assist.

Hayden DeKok and Ryder Nielson had the other goals and Cooper Sharratt picked up an assist.

Owen Archibald was in his usual place between the pipes to backstop the Mavericks to the win.
