The Macleod Gazette picked up four awards for writing this month in an Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association (AWNA) competition.
The AWNA announced the awards in advance of the annual general meeting on May 10.
Gazette editor Frank McTighe earned a second-place award in the Sue Gawlak Best Local Editorial competition.
McTighe earned the award for his editorial titled “Have Pride in Fort Macleod.”
McTighe received a third-place award in the Education Writing competition for his feature story on a tipi-raising project for Grade 7 students at F.P. Walshe school.
In the category of Best Feature Story by a Local Writer, McTighe earned a third-place award for his story on the ham radio field day at the Lions Campground.
McTighe also placed third in the Gordon Scott Memorial Award competition for best feature column by a local writer.
McTighe won for his column “They’re heroes — every single day” written following the deaths of two Alberta police officers in the line of duty.
