Future of Ardenville Hall being determined

MD of Willow Creek council will provide $400 to cover the costs of a history of the Ardenville Hall south of Fort Macleod, and had further discussion on the future of the hall.

At its Sept. 28 meeting, council agreed to provide $400 for the copying of the books, at $20 each for 20 books, with $200 each coming from the discretionary funds of Reeve Maryanne Sandberg and Coun. John Van Driesten.

Later in the meeting Van Driesten said the organization looking after the hall is running out of steam, and there is little desire to keep this hall.

Van Driesten added they want to close this hall and dissolve.

MD of Willow Creek chief administrative officer Derrick Krizsan suggested putting word out about the situation and seeing what support there is from the public.

The land sits on several acres and the hall has utilities and water, which cost about $1,500 per year.

The MAE Belles is the organization that has the title to the land.

“They don’t want to lose their history,” Reeve Maryanne Sandberg said.

Krizsan suggested contacting Heritage Acres about moving the hall to that historic facility by Pincher Creek.

Krizsan added there have been no takers on the offer of the building, but the people involved are gauging public interest about the hall and doing a membership drive.

They will get back to the MD of Willow Creek with the results of that initiative.

Sandberg pointed out that is where the recently-printed history book came from.
