Legion invites new applications for memorial banner project

BOB RIPLEY, GAZETTE CONTRIBUTOR

In conjunction with Remembrance Day, each fall, there are presently 39 Veteran Memorial Banners installed on street light poles in Fort Macleod.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 46 initiated this memorial project in 2021.

The goal is to keep alive the memory of the sacrifices made by veterans for current and future generations.

People can purchase one of the 22-inch by 54-inch banners for $220.

The veteran’s photo and name is featured on both sides of the banner.

There is an additional option to buy a 12-inch by 24-inch banner to display in the sponsor’s home or office.  Cost for the smaller banner is $90.

Space is available for approximately 25 additional banners on the light poles in downtown Fort Macleod.

People can sponsor banners for veterans who are not members of their family and the veterans do not have to be from Fort Macleod.

Veterans of peacekeeping missions are eligible, as are veterans of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The Fort Macleod Legion is responsible for storage of the banners.

The Town of Fort Macleod helps with the installation and take-down of the banners, at no cost to the Legion.

For further information and/or application forms please contact the Fort Macleod Legion at: P.O. Box 697, 403-553-3121 or legion46@shaw.ca.

Application forms should be submitted no later than July 15.
