Library celebrates arts and culture Thursday

Area residents can celebrate Alberta Culture Days on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Fort Macleod Library.

First Nations dancing, Norwegian fairy tales, bagpipes, and country music ares on the evening schedule.

Alberta Culture Days is a province-wide celebration of arts, culture, heritage and community spirit.

Fort Macleod Library’s Alberta Culture Days event gets under way at 4 p.m. Thursday with a presentation on the Great Horned Owl.

A Ukrainian immigrant will share her experience of coming to Alberta at 4:30 p.m.

That will be followed at 5 p.m.by a First Nations owl dance presentation by Kyle and Lana Blood.

Filipino, New Zealand, Ukrainian, Irish and British food samples will be served at 5:30 p.m.

Norwegian Fairy Tales will be told by Henrik Skoien at 6 p.m.

Darryl, Wendall, Sheldon and Roy Three Persons will give a presentation on famed rodeo cowboy Tom Three Persons at 6:30 p.m.

The winners of the Birds of Alberta photo contest will be announced at 7 p.m.

Singer Janita DeKok will perform following the awards presentation.

Bagpiper Shelly Kozub will perform at 7:30 p.m.

Country singer Cody Hall performs at 8 p.m.

All Alberta Culture Days events are free and open to the public.

Alberta is the only province in Canada to dedicate an entire month to the celebration of artists.

Last year, around 215,000 Albertans attended events in communities across the province.

More than 59 communities hosted events to increase awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Albertans in the arts and cultural life of their communities.
