Peter and the Wolves rocking out at the Empress

KIM BERRETH, GAZETTE CONTRIBUTOR

Cuff your jeans, button your shirt and comb back your hair, ’50s style, and  Peter and the Wolves will take you back in time at the Empress Theatre on Friday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Lead singer, songwriter, guitar and piano player “Howlin’ Pete” Cormier and his Wolves perform hard-hitting original rock and roll as well as favourite classics you may have forgotten you loved.

Based in Calgary, the four-piece rock and roll band, including saxophone, upright bass, drums and  piano, has toured across Canada and has also played internationally at festivals including Viva Las Vegas and Italy’s Summer Jamboree.

The band’s three albums of original 1950s-inspired rock and roll, recorded in the style of artists such as Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Fats Domino and Gene Vincent, are sprinkled with a few ageless covers.

Baby-faced frontman Cormier started the band when he was only 20 years old, writing tunes in his Bowness childhood home.

In a 2016 Calgary Herald article, Cormier explained: “I almost never write from real experience. I just like humming a melody and coming up with a story, and something that’s easy to sing along to. I just want people to have fun.”

The Empress Theatre is operating under the province’s Restrictions Exemption Program. Prior to entering the theatre, patrons must show proof of full vaccination and photo identification. Masks must be worn to enter the theatre.

The concession and bar will be open at this show.
