RCMP seek owners of stolen firearms

The RCMP are looking for the owners of seven stolen firearms seized during a June 12 traffic stop.

Parkland RCMP received a report about 12:30 a.m. June 12 of a suspicious white GMC Sierra truck with an attached flat deck trailer parked on a dead-end road in the residential area near Duffield, Alta.. 

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. 

The male driver was a suspended driver and was wanted on outstanding warrants.

When the driver opened the door of the GMC truck, police observed a fake vehicle identification number  attached to the door. 

The initial investigation determined the truck and trailer were stolen.

A further search uncovered suspected methamphetamine, one prohibited firearm, seven other firearms and two prohibited devices (over capacity magazines), also believed to be stolen

The suspect is known to police and he was arrested without incident.

Kalen Mailhot, 41, of Parkland County, was charged with possession of a firearm; possession of a prohibited weapon; possession of a weapon; fraud; altering or removing a VIN; and possession of methamphetamine

Mailhot was remanded into custody and will appear June 19 in Stony Plain court of justice..

The Parkland RCMP are trying to reunite the recovered stolen firearms with the rightful owners.

Anyone trying to claim the firearms will be required to provide the make, model and serial number.
