The Carolines bring spine tingling harmonies to the Empress

Three Edmonton-based songstresses who have combined forces as The Carolines are making their way to the Empress Theatre on Saturday, April 6 for a classic country show.

The Carolines, comprised of Chloe Albert, Lesley Pelletier and Katie Perman, sing cleverly arranged tunes by Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, Trio, the Chicks and more.

Their spine-tingling harmonies breathe new life into the old songs and put an authentic old-time spin on contemporary tunes.

In the band’s 10 years together, they have become the sweethearts of many Alberta festivals, music venues, folk clubs and house concerts.

The Carolines’ six-piece band, featuring the talents of Chris Tabbert on electric guitar, Paul Bergeron on upright bass and Matt Grier on the drums, supplies the driving rhythm and scorching guitar solos that puts the finishing touches on a great show.

Their harmonies are complex but come effortlessly with precision and originality.

Theirs is the kind of comfortable collaboration that comes from a wealth of performance experience and musical knowledge, not to mention a decade of singing together.

Chloe Albert has a diploma in vocal performance from Grant MacEwan.

Albert launched her debut album Dedicated State in 2008, which won her an Emerging Artist of the Year award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Albert’s second release, 2013’s Dream Catcher, garnered her a JUNO nomination, a Western Music Awards nomination and three Edmonton Music awards. Her latest album is Come Around Again.

Lesley Pelletier went to Victoria Performing Arts School and has a degree in Music Therapy from Capilano College in Vancouver.

Pelletier sang in Kokopelli Choir and performed with her own dueling piano show for many years. She released an album of original songs in 2013.

Katie Perman has a music degree in performance from Grant MacEwan University and co-owns The Grand Dueling Piano Show.

Perman performs regularly at Aussie Rules Piano Bar in Calgary, Halleys Club at WEM, and at The Rose and Crown.

Perman released her debut album of original songs in 2009 and was selected for breakout artist of the year for Now Radio that same year.
