Town may rezone former Presbyterian Church

A zoning change is proposed for a former church building in Fort Macleod.

Council gave first reading to By-law No. 1955 during its Feb. 28 meeting at the G.R. Davis Administration Building.

The property on the north corner of 20th Street and Third Avenue was previously used as a church, and later the satellite campus for Lethbridge College.

Town of Fort Macleod director of operations Adrian Pedro told council the new owner plans to renovate the building.

The by-law would rezone the property to residential multi unit, from public institutional.

Residential multi unit zoning provides for such uses as a dwelling with up to four units and home occupations.

Discretionary uses under multi unit residential zoning include private alternative energy, a group care facility for up to five residents, parks and playgrounds, senior citizen housing and secondary suites.

After giving first reading, council set a public hearing for 7 p.m. Monday, March 28 at the G.R. Davis Administration Building.

Anyone interested in making a submission at the public hearing should contact chief administrative officer Anthony Burdett by 4 p.m. Monday, March 21.
