Archer, Janet Gail

July 12, 1942 — May 29, 2024

Janet Gail Archer of Fort Macleod passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the age of 81 years. Janet is dearly missed by her children Kent (Melodie), Karen (Steve), and Kelly (George); as well as her grandchildren David, James and Erica, Katrina and Chelsea, and great grandson Jasper.

Janet is predeceased by her first husband William (Bill) Archer and her eldest daughter Kim.

Janet’s life was filled with adventure, creativity, and family. She cherished her four children. She instilled in them the importance of family. Her children fondly remember her quirky sense of humor and the times they had fun together. She was known for her creativity and passed her love of music down to her children. Though she had many hobbies, including gardening and art, they could always find her at her sewing machine, sewing everything from dolls to clothing to outerwear and sleeping bags.

Janet’s kindness and warmth extended outside of the home as well. She was an educator involved in ESL and literacy programs in Fort Macleod. She was passionately involved with Scouts Canada. She enjoyed many years as the Cub Scout Akela in both Banff and Fort Macleod. She also found adventure and fulfillment in travelling all over Canada and as far as Ecuador and Korea. Her strong faith never wavered. She cherished the LDS community she was a part of.

Janet always found ways to make life bright and enjoyable for all those around her. In her last years of life, she made many wonderful friends in the four years she lived at the Pioneer Lodge. It was said at one point, “Your mom’s a character. It was always a goal in life to meet someone truly eccentric, and with your mom, I did.”

Janet’s character and her authenticity will be so missed by those who remember her.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Eden’s Funeral Home, 2424 Fifth Ave., Fort Macleod.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to may donate to the Willow Creek Foundation , P.O. Box 790, Fort Macleod, Alta., T0L 0Z0
