March 21, 1940 — Sept. 24, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Colleen Mary Brooks, who passed away with her family nearby on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, at the age of 85.

Colleen was born on March 21, 1940, in Shaunavon, Sask. She married Gerald Brooks on January 24, 1959, and together they had three children.

Colleen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerald Brooks; her parents, Bud and Thelma Haverty; her sister, Kathleen Davies; two brothers-in-law; and three nephews.

Colleen is lovingly remembered by her children Kelly (Estelle Berube) Brooks of Kamloops, B.C.; Pat Brooks of Fort Macleod; and Lynn (Vern Holtz) Brooks-Holtz of Vernon, B.C. She was a proud grandmother to Matthew, Stacey, and Lucas, and a cherished great grandmother to Alexi.

Colleen is also survived by her brothers, John Haverty of Fort Macleod and Dave (Rose) Haverty of Vernon, B.C.; her sisters, Helen Dunham of Parksville, B.C., and Ina Marie (Jack) Oldham of Vulcan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Colleen began her career as a teacher at just 18 years of age in Mossleigh, and continued teaching into her late 30s. She later bought and operated a successful drapery and fabric store in Fort Macleod, where she became a respected businesswoman and a familiar face in the community. In her later years, Colleen could often be found behind the counter at the Fort Macleod Library, where she delighted in greeting friends and neighbours.

An active and compassionate volunteer, Colleen gave her time generously to many community projects. She was involved in the Fortnightly Club, the Macleod Quilters Guild, and played a key role in launching the school lunch program in Fort Macleod. Her love of life, quick wit, and warm spirit touched everyone who knew her.

There will be no funeral service, as a private family dedication will be held at a later date. Those who wish to honour Colleen’s memory may consider donations to the Fort Macleod school nutritional programs.

Colleen will be remembered always for her compassion, humour, and unwavering love for her family and community.
